Rigorous National Green Building Standard Certification
NGBS Green certification provides independent, third-party verification that a home, building, or land development is designed and built to achieve high performance in six key areas: Site Design, Resource Efficiency, Water Efficiency, Energy Efficiency, Indoor Environmental Quality, and Operation & Maintenance.
Home Innovation, an accredited standard development organization, is Secretariat for the National Green Building Standard ICC-700, an ANSI-approved standard. We are the sole national certification agency. NGBS Green Certification is recognized by numerous federal, state, and local agencies, lenders, the Appraisal Institute, and code officials. NGBS Green Certification tools and materials shall only to be used for NGBS Green Certification issued by Home Innovation.
Testing Homes to the Highest Green Standards
We certify homes to the rigorous requirements of the National Green Building Standard® (NGBS) – the first residential green building rating system approved by ANSI as an American National Standard. The NGBS provides practices for the design, construction, and renovation of buildings and land developments.

We not only certify green homes and developments – we also pre-approve products that help buildings earn certification. Products that carry the Home Innovation NGBS Green Certified mark have been evaluated and approved for specific NGBS criteria. When installed properly and in the right quantity or manner specified by Home Innovation Labs, NGBS Green Certified Products make the verification and certification process more straightforward and streamlined for builders, remodelers, and accredited green verifiers.
