Testing all types of insulation products – including fiberglass batts and metal building insulation – Home Innovation Research Lab’s third-party certification program verifies that the R-value displayed on a product’s label and the R-value of the material inside the package are one and the same. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Rule 460, the R-value Rule, sets the requirement for claims about home insulation performance. The North American Insulation Manufacturer’s Association (NAIMA) 202-96 standard “For Flexible Fiber Glass Insulation to be Laminated for Use in Metal Buildings” sets the thermal resistance requirements for unfaced fiberglass insulation. The National Insulation Association’s (NIA) “Certified Faced Insulation Standard” sets the requirements for products produced by metal building insulation laminators. Home Innovation helps insulation manufacturers comply with these published standards and codes.
Our certification procedures for insulation products include periodic factory inspections by Home Innovation field representatives to randomly sample and evaluate product specimens. Following in-plant testing, specimens are sent to Home Innovation’s thermal research lab for testing and certification services.
