NGBS Green Certifications See Steady Growth
Halfway through 2018, the NGBS Green Certification program is poised to see an increase in the annual number of units certified.
Since the introduction of Home Innovation Research Labs’ NGBS Green Certification program in 2009, close to 150,000 homes and apartments have become NGBS Green Certified. As of August 2018, there were an additional 120,000 homes in-process for certification. As shown in the chart below, the program has shown steady growth year after year; based on strong growth for the first half of 2018, the program is once again on target to see an increase in the annual number of units certified.

Halfway through 2018, Texas, Florida, and North Carolina are the top three states for NGBS Green multifamily certifications, while North Carolina, Florida, and Illinois lead the way with single-family NGBS Green certifications. South Carolina saw notable increases in its multifamily certifications, moving up to No. 4 on the list.

The Builder’s Resource Guide (HomeInnovation.com/BRG) is a great first step. Be sure to also check out our online list of jurisdictions that offer incentives for NGBS Green certification (HomeInnovation.com/NGBSIncentives).
There’s also a list of the 30-plus locales where the NGBS is recognized in a qualified allocation plan (QAP) for low-income housing tax credits. If you know of incentives not captured on this list, or if you’re aware of a jurisdiction that incentivizes green but not the NGBS specifically, let us know at HomeInnovation.com/NGBSGreenContact.
