Home Innovation Research Labs Recognizes 2020 NGBS Green Partners of Excellence
Builders, Verifiers, Architects Applauded for Helping Promote Third-Party Certified, High-Performance, Green Building
Today, Home Innovation Research Labs recognized 87 NGBS Green Partners for outstanding contributions to advancing green building in their communities and their commitment to voluntary, market-driven, third-party certification of high-performance homes. On the heels of reaching the program milestone of 300,000 NGBS Green Certified Homes, we are especially grateful to this year’s recipients for helping NGBS Green thrive over such a turbulent time in the world and in our industry. There were individuals or companies recognized in several categories – NGBS Green Verifiers, including some newly-accredited “Rising Stars;” Builders; Multifamily Builders/Developers; Green Advocates; and Architects. And this year, for the first time, we also make special recognition for those who have exhibited long-standing, continual excellence through our Legacy Recipients who have been named a Partner of Excellence for 5 or more years.
“In the past year, conversations on how to minimize a building’s impact on the environment, while concurrently addressing how it can improve resident’s health and wellness have become mainstream,” said Michelle Foster, Home Innovation’s Vice President, Sustainability. “Climate change, COVID, natural disasters of increasing frequency and intensity, and a heightened interest in ESG goals have sparked an even great movement toward building homes that are better for the environment and better for the residents. NGBS Green Partners of Excellence are industry professionals who take action to help the industry move to the next level of performance. This year we additionally honor those NGBS Green Legacy Partner Recipients who continue the pursuit, year after year, of creating and promoting sustainable, healthy homes that will yield benefits for years to come.”
In recognition of their excellence as NGBS Green Partners, leadership in the field, and unwavering commitment to high-performance homes and multifamily buildings, below are the 2020 NGBS Green Partners of Excellence (Multi-year “Legacy” recipients are indicated in bold green text):

Home Innovation acknowledges that the expertise and dedication of these Partners has made NGBS Green a better program and has been a significant factor in its ongoing growth and success. In addition to the most recent certification milestone and continued growth in the certification pipeline of registered projects (more than 6,600 single-family homes and 154,000 apartments in process), other highlights of the past year include certifying the first NGBS Green home in Puerto Rico, thanks to the new provisions within the 2020 NGBS for buildings in the Tropical Climate Zone; Home Innovation being named a WaterSense HCO by EPA; seeing significant growth in the number of affordable homes becoming NGBS Green Certified and QAPs in which the NGBS is recognized or incentivized; and expansion of the types of buildings (including commercial space in mixed use buildings) the certification program can serve.
